Fantastic Fiction

It is a very up-to-date source for searching authors, titles and genres. I use it to compile lists for authors who have written series. Fantastic Fiction puts series books in order by date by series. In my mind, this is what makes it fantastic!

Joe found this site which can be used to answer the homework question: "What is the classification for the species I have been assigned (Kingdom, phylum, etc.)?

Just click on the "classification" link and enter the species to get the scheme for that species. We also have a couple of books in the reference collection that do a similar thing.

You may have heard more about blogs recently--even that they are being used at CML. Blogs, a word for "Web logs," are web sites that allow for interactive posting of content. Both more substantive and more permanent than a chat room, these sites allow regulated response to a topic or theme.

The blogspot site allows you to create your own blog for free, to search for blogs on topics of interest, or to sign in to contribute to our own www.34ref.blogspot.com blog (you're on it now!)
This site has a tutorial that will get you started. Blogs are easy, free and you can have just about as many as you want.

An excellent book in out collection is, Blogging in a Snap, by Julie Meloni, and naturally there is Blogging for Dummies.

A. You don't.

Here are two ways to approach a site full of information, but that never has what you want out front. First strategy: Use Google. For example, search "Reynoldsburg Ohio Population" or "43068 demographics"

Second strategy: Go through the convoluted menu of the census site. For example, finding zip code demographics is detailed in a small business pathfinder in our reference drawer at the desk or in the G: drive in the census folder. If you have questions, please ask on this one.

Common Latin Phrases in English Usage

I had a question on what a Latin phrase meant the other day and this site is an alphabetical listing of the most common phrases and their meaning in English. From what I can see, this site is the sine qua non of Internet sites that translate Latin phrases.

I don't think you need to memorize the URL. If you do a Google search it will pop up prominently, or you can remember that you saw it on our blog!
